The Commemoratives

Join Roman and Simon as we do our best to test the listings made by Kerr and later by Chan. What has been missed? Which overprints have been assigned to the wrong towns? What is genuine and what is suspect? - You get the idea......

The Commemoratives

Post by doc032848 »

Roman and Simon,

It seems everyone claims all the commemorative issues are genuine.
But how many commercial covers do we have?
I am wondering what to do about listing them.
What do you think?

Do you mean overprinted commemorative stamps on covers or commemorative overprints on covers (ie; Liberation Anniversary Commemoratives, 9-2 etc)?

Good work Simon!

I mean all those Hsin-min issues with overprints, attached to a cover. What are we looking at?

I find Kerr and Chan just listing these without question like a librarian cataloging the new books into the collection.

Roman, Simon,

Which MLO commemoratives do you know of on commercial covers?

Roman, Simon, members,

Let me start it off with these:
1) all commemorative sets of Harbin probably exist on commercial covers. Thew real rarity on cover in Harbin is the Union Communist overprint # 54.10-13. I have only seen one commercial cover of any stamps in that set.
2) Chu-ho Surrender commemorative 30.45-47
3) I-mien-po Surrender Commemorative 84.58-60
4) Mu-tan-kiang 1-10 Day 147.5

I will add more gradually. Can either of you add some? I would be most appreciative.

George,

how about this one (Kerr 167). This cover I find in some ways interesting, first of all it helps us to find the correct location of this stamp issue (it was Pingshan (平山), Binjiang Province (濱江省) and not somewhere Liaoning) and it prove this issue was really in commercial use and not a bogus issue.

Last but not least Pingshan (平山) was Liberated 1945 (November 7), so this stamp issue belongs to Liberated Area.
