I'm very new to Chinese stamps. I've been collecting US and Germany on and off since I was a kid, and a few years ago I became very serious about it again, mostly US and Canada.
I recently inherited the worldwide collection of my wife's grandfather, who lived in Poland and collected from when he was a child until he died in 1980. It's a true worldwide collection with surprising depth in some areas, including China. I'm doing my best to work through the China stuff on my own, and I seem to have caught the China stamp bug.
In any case, I'm looking forward to the help of CSS members in getting me started.
My name is lee, presently working in china. i just got a will from my grand parents released to me by the lawyer and i have inherited a 1925 and 1923 surcharged stamp. They look in pretty good condition. I dont know anythng about it,any one ineterested in the hubby should contact me for the stamps. firstname.lastname@example.org
It would be best if you would scan and post an image of the stamps in question.
Some 1923, 1925 stamps are worth less than $1.00 USD, others worth more. There was only one stamp issued by China in 1925, and that one is listed at $2.25 in the Scott 2010 Stamp Catalogue, an overprinted one. At least according to them.
So without more information, not sure you are going to get much of a response.
As in all antiques: stamps, painting, ceramics, books, etc. age alone does not mean value.
But be happy to assist if I can see an image.

Have be enjoying my new hobby of stamp collecting for the past 3 years. I inherited my collection from my late husband, I think he would be very pleased that I have picked up where he left off. My China collection is not very big (yet) and of course have many questions that I am hoping other members will help me with. I have lots of time to devote as I have been a domestic goddess for years. Besides my new hobby, I enjoy my wonderful children (4) and (3) grandchildren immensely. I am also a licensed Florida Real Estate agent. Enough said about that!
I have been collecting stamps since school days and postal history since I started working. My initial area of interest was naturally Malaya in which I specialised and exhibited for Johor. However, I have since ventured into other areas such as military, censorship and Indochina. I recently decided earlier this year to collect China and have acquired some stamps and a few covers for a start without knowing which area or period to focus. However, I believe recent auction prices have decided for me the area that suits my pocket is probably the Republic period.
I am keen to acquire some good reference literature and will appreciate any advice I can get in my China philatelic journey.
I am absolutely convinced that knowledge is key and have become a society junkie with memberships in MSG, SICP, CCSG, FPHS, CPSL and of course CSS.
I started collecting chinese stamps 12 years ago when we were living in China; we bought lots of new issues from the post office, and also trolled through stamp markets to find interesting values. Even then the cultural revolution stamps were super expensive, but if I would have known what I know now I would have bought them anyway, given the recent price increases!
I'm most interested in the general history of communism as portrayed on stamps, so anything having to do with marx, lenin, mao, little red book, flag, propaganda, etc is perfect for my collection; i also have collection of russian and north korean stamps, and am expanding into other communist countries like Vietnam and Cuba - I'm most interested in how stamps are used to represent ideals of a society.
I am also interested in trading WW dupes, i have a box full that i'd love to swap with people!
My name is Melva, I live in the UK, I have collected HK for 18 years and only now have been hit by the Imperial China bug.
I am a complete novice but have come to appreciate the beauty of the stamps and covers of this period.
I have made some large purchases to try and hit the road running and would like to get some help trying to sort out what I have,
look forward to talking with you all and sharing images of what I have,
