Welcome to the forum Karl!

As a child, I lived in Germany for 6 years. (Butzbach & Darmstadt)

My primary focus is the London & Peking issues, and Hong Kong.

The forum is not very active, but there are a few of us who keep checking in. I am unable to speak (ALS), so online formats are where I have most of my conversations. Please feel free to share your collection and knowledge.

Best Regards,
Dawn

Hello Dawn,
thanks for this warm welcome to your community.

Well I hope you remember your childhood in Germany as good times.

Please accept my appologies previously for any mistakes in this and future texts I may make. My english is not as good as it should be.

I am 65 years old, and live in a small village near Augsburg Bavaria, and I am member of the german research community for chinese stamps ( FCP ) www.forge-china.de

I collect chinese stamps from imperial to PRC times since decades.

Actually I look for Information about the sheet counter numbers printed on one stamp instaed of sheet margin.
These numbers are only visible under uv - light
The cinese post started to do so by end of the year 1999

Maybe you know, or know someone, who knows why the china post did so, and if this numbers are more than counters and so on.

Greetings from Bavaria

Karl

Hi Karl,

Your English is 100% better than my German. :D I do have very fond memories of Germany.

Are you a member the China Stamp Society? They have a library with over 8,000 publications available to members. Perhaps you could find your answers there. Also, they have 2 auctions a year, and the November auction is in full swing. CSS is my preferred source for China material, as I don't have to worry about fakes (ebay).

Best Regards,
Dawn

Hello Dawn,
great your memories are good.
I am not member of CSS, but should think about this .
I stopped buying or selling stamps overseas. Customs !!
Do you know, this library is online available ?
Yes, fakes are always a problem, hope I dont have too much of them.

Best regards

Karl

Good morning Karl, at least it is here in Florida, USA. Welcome to the forum and I see you have already met Dawn.

If my memory serves me, William Wise wrote about these numbers appearing on individual stamps several years ago in The China Clipper, journal of the CSS that Dawn referred to.

You might try asking him. His email is william.wise@cox.net. He is the New Issues Editor for the journal and does a great job of staying current on PRC and Taiwan and all the other issues of China. Again, if my memory serves me, he never got a direct answer as to the purpose for these markings from the authorities. But as you note they are interesting and makes one wonder why go to all that trouble.

Keep asking questions, that is what the forum is all about.

Welcome and very best wishes to you both.

Hi. My name is Simon, and I live in rural New Zealand, about an hour's drive along the coast from the capital, Wellington. I work part time as an assessor for Mowbray Collectables, the largest philatelic auctioneer in New Zealand.
We get a fair amount of routine and common China material and occasionally something more unusual. Our library on China stretches to Chan, various N C Yang, Ma, Kuo and a few specialist publications, plus Gibbons, Scott and Michel of course. But sometimes we're puzzled by an item or a cover.
