I am new to the forum.
I am based/work in London and mainly concentrate on early US and early GB stamps which I have some knowledge of. I have been interested in enhancing a very small Chinese collection for some time and have started and look forward to that process.
I am about to make a larger mostly GB/mixed purchase, in which there are a few Chinese stamps. Two of those stamps are considered high value but I question their authenticity.They have come from an old collection. The seller who I’ve purchased good GB stamps from in the past says she has no knowledge of Chinese stamps and i am only beginning that journey.
I would welcome your views on the stamps which i have attached? If fake, what should be done with them?
Your input is appreciated, and I look forward to following the forum.
The stamps are;
China 1897 SG90 Red Revenue Overprint Black 4 cent on 3 cent MNH.
China 237a 1915 Hall of Classics $2 Black on Blue variety centre invert MNH.

To try to answer your questions, yes, both of those are what are known as replica stamps, not genuine. From time to time and for different reasons groups, sometimes governmental groups, have issued folders and singles of very well known Chinese stamps. I think if you look at yours you will find them a different size than the regular/legitimate stamp, and the yellowish color is another giveaway. Both front and back are yellowish. Not to even mention the printing.
Besides, the old adage that if it is too good to be true, then it isn't.
Sorry you did not hit the lottery, few of us ever do.
Best of luck with your China pursuit.
Many thanks for your reply and I will now cancel the Bentley I had on order!
Yes, i had assumed they were not real, but its really good to have the verified by someone who knows what they are talking about.
Thank you again again for your help.
