Re: China 1949 UPU stamp

Welcome to the CSS China Forum Dr. Dave, First off let me say I in no way am an expert on the ROC stamps. But I can suggest you visit the St. Pete Stamp Club and take advantage of their library. The best philatelic library by far in the SE US. They have copies of both the Ma catalogue and the CSS Ch...

Re: Please help to identify unknown stamps

Welcome to the CSS China Forum. Hope you get the answers to your questions. The Sun Yat Sen stamps are one of the more confusing areas of Chinese philately, especially to beginners. But when you think of what was going on there at that time you understand a bit. I am in the US. In the US most towns ...

Re: Is this real ?? 73 cent on 25 cent Inflation / First Junkers Issue Surcharged

Grading of stamps has begun, but few other than US collectors are using the service. Several organizations offer expertization of Chinese stamps, the CSS in particular. You can look at the CSS website for more information and make the decision yourself as to using it or another or maybe not. But ove...

Re: Just Got Chinese Stamps from late 1800's - Mid 1900's Question Rare Overprint Air Post stamps

Welcome to the CSS Forum Austin. Congratulations on the purchases and gifts. Yes, Chinese stamps have appreciated quite nicely in the recent period. China's rise out of a Third World economy to the second largest today, coupled with an incredible rise in the average citizen's income has led to many ...

Been there, done that. But now retired and enjoying it immensely.

Yes, I have the time and willingness to spend on stamps.

Best wishes to all.

Re: Peonies

I certainly do not think your finding nor the stamp situation is in the category of a "small footnote." I have gone back through my collection and hope others might too (listening Wilbur Yu?). As of right now I have looked at Scott #'s 600 to 800. I am surprised at how many sets are mixed like the P...

Re: C8

1950? Reprints are on bright paper, so the PRC authorities certainly were familiar with paper differences way before the 1964 issues. Got ahead of myself. Correction needed in Williams but for quite some time many in America and elsewhere assumed the reprints were not postally valid.

Re: Peonies

Roman, If I remember right, in the first report from the Institute for Analytical Philately there was a paper that showed someone trying to mathematically estimate how many of a particular stamp existed based on the number of times it appeared at auction. It is apparently a technique widely used in ...

Re: Peonies

Surprising is a good term. I checked mine. #1 had some slight luminesce, but I attribute that to contact with something else. Only one example (used) of five. #'s 8,9,13,14,and 15 absolutely luminesce. I have looked at mint, CTO and postally used copies. All copies in all categories luminesce bright...

Re: Peonies

Still have not gotten to your Peonies yet, apologies. But looked at single stamps, seten stamps, and S/S of the C106, mint, CTO, and used. My head is spinning. Will tabulate and post what I found here this weekend. At this point just say I am surprised at what I found, and it does not make any sense...
