Re: Manchurian 5 Yuan proof

I certainly cannot help, but I would like to compliment you on a good, tough question. That is a good one. Complex for sure.

We have quiet a few who collect Manchurian material and hopefully they can assist.

Re: PRC "Monkey" (Scott 1586) - identifying forgeries

Here is a scan from a Chinese language book I have. But note this is just one characteristic, and that this book was printed in 1994, quite some time ago in this subject area. This particular scan is of the "8" area wlin talks of. Note the engraved characteristics in the number 8 in the left image. ...

Re: PRC "Monkey" (Scott 1586) - identifying forgeries

Buying items like this on eBay is asking for trouble in my opinion. Buying such items at major auction houses that specialize in things Chinese (read stamps) or reputable dealers is a bit safer, but NOT foolproof. Their handling of large numbers of items helps, and also their reputation is important...

Re: Being Precise With Words

Description of batonne is found on page 50-52 in Fundamentals of Philately by Williams. On page 49 it begins by saying there are two types of "Paper Textures" (Wove and Laid) and then two more varieties that combine the variation in thickness of paper with deliberate thinning. He refers to these var...

Re: Being Precise With Words

Sorry Doc, wish it were true.

The credit for those pictures goes to Willy. I am still looking for the book. Think I have a friend in the PRC who is mailing me one right now.

NE LAS listings

I have been going through the Northeast Liberation Area stamps I have and need to post a question. There are a number of what Scott calls "commemorative issues" in the above 1L122 Scott numbering system. Where are these in the PRC or JPS or Yang or Gibbons catalogues? Yes, some are there, but all ar...

Re: Being Precise With Words

Thank you, I am sure there are others that will be interested too. I'll have to check. I do have several already, but I do not remember any with much devoted to the "secret marks". I know China, like every country, has a problem with forgeries and counterfiets. Where there is money, there is unfortu...

Re: Being Precise With Words

Willy, Wow! Do you have an extra copy of that book, or a source where I can get one? I would be very interested. In Chinese or not, it would prove invaluable to me. And if anyone else has one the same goes, I would like a copy. Of course, please email me first with information. If not, could you pos...

Re: Can You Tell Me How?

Very good question, and hope we get a good answer. I have been wondering about printing in the PRC for quite some time. But on a recent trip to China (Sept. 2009) I ran across two collectors who mentioned that there is printing going on at the provincial level for standard issues. By standard (I rea...
