Date or Time on English in the middle with three sets of numbers.

On some cancels, I have:
20 May 15
18

20 should be the day, but which is the year?

Re: Anyone wish to comment on collecting cancels? Help neede

You make it as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. More people simply collect what they find, or buy collections made by other collectors. Since 1968, I've purchased bulk common China to pull out the cancels. Most cancel collectors are happy to have one bilingual example per small town, a...

Re: Anyone wish to comment on collecting cancels? Help neede

1. Just how much of the cancel is required in order to get satisfactory data? 50%? 60%? more? I'd say the main factor is 100% unambiguous. There are several towns that share the same name with a town in another province. If you have the English without the character(s) for the province, you do not h...

Review of China Stamp & Postal History Forum

Well, I'm finally on the forum, with the very patient help of Robert Jia. I posted a picture of the CHANGSMA for CHANGSHA error. The homepage has a small picture box that shows the last six posts. CHANGSMA is right up there for everyone who starts with this page. Now it seems that most CSS members s...

Re: Overprints or cancels?

....mostly into cancels. But the most common reason for a fake overprint in the 1950s, when not trying to sell it individually as a rarity, was merely to fill a packet. 200, 300, 500, or a thousand different. I don't have one handy, but there is a five character bar, like the Sinkiang, Yunnan, Szech...

Re: Overprints or cancels?

The first stamp appears to have the Szechwan handstamp, listed in Scott on "some" of the Junkers airmails, and unlisted by Scott on the 1941 Industry and Agriculture issue. Ind and Ag was 1941, the Szech airs were 1942, and this East China stamp was 1949. Real or fake/favor, there's an interesting s...

PEIPING (24) as 一廿四

Think the one was needed because the rubber hand stamp slots were set up for three characters? PEIPING (24) (On Piece) 北 一廿四 平 SUN A37 299 Bottom Dotted 25.5mm 3mm Letters 24-Aug-37 HOPEH ---finally figured out how to put three vertical characters between the two large characters. 7IENTSIN. Tientsin using 7 on Sun A82 Scott759

A clear clean unambiguous Tientsin cancel where a 7 is used for the leading T. Or so it seems. Has this been found before? I have over 450 Tientsin cancels, but do not have another late 1940s cancel with a 3.5mm tall 7 for comparison. A 4mm tall 7 on another A82 cancel shows the same bottom widening...
